Dover Center Road Reconstruction Coming in 2009

After considerable effort, North Olmsted Mayor Thomas O'Grady has received funding that will allow for the reconstruction of Dover Center Road in North Olmsted.  Mayor O’Grady commented, “This major road reconstruction effort has been needed for many years, but the cost to North Olmsted taxpayers was too high for the city to go it alone.  With the award of these grants, the road will be rebuilt this year at a fraction of the cost to our citizens.”

The City of North Olmsted was awarded $809,548 in a Local Transportation Improvement System (LTIP) Grant from the Ohio Public Work Commission (OPWC) District One Public Works Integrating Committee (DOPWIC).  “After a great deal of effort, we will now have a new roadway in North Olmsted,” commented O’Grady.  The Dover Center Road Project was one of just twenty-three projects awarded as a DOPWIC Program Year 2009 funded project from a total of 88 projects submitted by other Cuyahoga County municipalities including Cuyahoga County Engineer’s Office.  Furthermore, the Cuyahoga County Engineer’s Office has agreed to contribute an additional $260,000 in funding toward the project totaling almost $1.1 million in grants for the city.

The $1,619,096 Dover Center Road Reconstruction Project will consist of milling and resurfacing of asphalt pavement along with some areas of full depth pavement replacement.  The Project limits will be from Butternut Ridge Road heading north to the City of Westlake corporation line consisting of approximately 1.52 miles of roadway.  Deteriorating catch basins and curb inlets will be replaced or new drainage structures will be installed.  New concrete curb and sidewalk portions will be replaced along with concrete curb ramps.  Finally, traffic signal loop detectors will be replaced.  Construction is expected to begin in early summer 2009 and complete this year.

“This is yet another great achievement for our city.  In the brief four years that I have been in office, we have rebuilt Clague Road, the Great Northern Boulevard / I-480 overpass, the Crocker-Stearns extension, and now this,” said O’Grady.  “And we’re not done yet.  We will also complete the Stearns Road overpass and rebuild existing Stearns Road south of I-480 this year, with a new traffic light at Dorchester Drive.”
